Be sure to read the entire Race Details page in addition to this FAQ to make sure you have all the necessary info about The Hampton Half & 5k!

For the start and finish, bathrooms are located near the Sea Shell Stage and the North Beach House.
At packet pick-up/registration, there are bathrooms inside the hotel. Along the course, the State Park bath houses are at Miles 2.5, 5, and 11. We’ll also have porta-potties at the water stops.
Half:  There will be stops at Miles 2 (water), 5.5 (+Gatorade), 7.5 (Clif Shot energy gel), 7.8 (water), and 10.5 (water).
5k:  There will be one water stop at Mile 2.
There are no changing facilities available, so please show up ready to run.
The course is not closed to auto traffic, but for the safety of the runners we strongly suggest that spectators stay right in the beach area for the best viewing.
The course isn’t closed to car traffic but we strongly discourage any cars on the course for the safety of our runners. If you do drive out to watch the race, you’ll most likely be stuck in runner traffic and not get back in time to see the finish, so we recommend staying in the Start/Finish area.
Packet pickup/registration is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., so we suggest arriving no later than 8:30 a.m. to ensure you have time to park, pick up your bib, and get to the starting line before 10 a.m.
Please plan to line up in the start corral by 9:45 a.m.
A common rule of thumb is to take your 5k pace and add 40 seconds. For example, if you run a 31 minute 5k, that averages to a pace of 10 minutes per mile. Your half marathon pace would then be about 10:40 per mile.
The time limit for the course is 3 hours & 30 minutes. This is about a 16 minute per mile pace. We have strict rules from the State DOT and the towns about how long the course can be open. Participants found on mile 6 on the course at a slower rate than 16 minutes per mile will be asked to turn around and head back to the finish. They will still get a time and medal.
Because wearing headphones greatly reduces your ability to hear race marshals and car traffic, our insurance provider requires us to prohibit the wearing of headphones during the race.
There are two races: a 5k (3.1 miles) and a half-marathon (13.1 miles). The course is certified, accurate and well-marked.
Yes, you may elect to drop down from the half marathon to the 5k. There will be no rebate or price difference. Please contact linda@locorunning.com ASAP if you’d like to switch.
The half marathon course is certified and accurate according to USATF standards. However your GPS measurement of the course is bound to be different and will most likely show the distance covered to be “long.” This is normal, and here’s a very technical explanation why: In GPS We Trust.
For both the Half and 5k, prizes are awarded to the top 3 men and women finishers overall, and to the top 3 men and women in the following categories: 19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Awards are picked up at the Awards table inside the Ashworth By The Sea Ballroom. Awards will not be mailed.
We’re sorry, but there are no refunds, transfers or deferrals.
The course will not be closed to car traffic but there will be runner lanes with cones, signs, and race marshals directing traffic.
There isn’t an official bag check but many runners leave their bags in the ballroom of the Ashworth By The Sea Hotel (the packet pickup location). Loco Sports LLC is not liable for any losses or theft that may occur.
No, for safety reasons, strollers are not allowed on the course.
No, dogs are not allowed on the course.
Shirts are available in women’s (S-XL) and men’s (S-XXL) sizes. You select a size during online registration but we allow you to choose a different size at packet pick-up because we know that sometimes shirts fit a little differently than you expected. However, because people can change their minds at the last minute, we don’t actually know how many of each size to order. We do our best to estimate (and we even order extras), but sometimes we run out of a particular size. So, if it’s really important that you get a specific size, be sure to arrive at packet pick-up as early as possible.
