LIVE EVENT FAQs
Can I get a refund if I register but don't run?
All sales are final. No refunds will be given, unless you are registered for a live race and the live race is cancelled by the event organizer without cause. A date or venue change is not a cancellation. For more details, including options to transfer and defer, please visit our Refund Policy here.
When considering refund policies for events of this type, it’s helpful to draw a comparison to live concerts or similar large-scale events. Just like a concert, where organizers must secure a venue, hire performers, and pay for lighting, sound, and security well in advance, endurance events involve significant upfront costs. These include securing permits, hiring staff and medical personnel, renting equipment, purchasing finisher medals, race shirts, and bibs, and ensuring proper safety measures are in place.
Once these costs are incurred, they are non-refundable for us, regardless of whether a participant attends or not. Just as you wouldn’t expect a refund if you couldn’t make it to a concert after buying a ticket, the same principle applies to your registration. The funds collected from registrations are immediately invested in creating a high-quality experience for everyone involved.
Additionally, many of these events rely on precise planning and budgeting based on the number of participants. Offering refunds could jeopardize the financial stability of the event and its ability to proceed as planned. To ensure fairness and the event’s success, most organizers, including endurance events and concerts, adopt a no-refund policy. This allows us to focus on delivering a memorable and well-executed event for all runners.
Can I switch from the half marathon to the 5K or vice versa for the live race?
Yes, you can change distances online before registration closes.
- To do so, simply log into your RunSignUp account
- Under “upcoming events” you will choose “manager registration”
- Click “transfer event” to begin
If you’re upgrading from a distance, you’ll be required to pay the difference in price; however we don’t offer refunds for the difference in price when switching to a shorter distance.
Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
What if it snows before or during the race?
Safety is the top priority for our runners, volunteers, and staff. If it is determined by race management and public officials that the event is unsafe to participate in, it will be cancelled. Refunds will not be given under any circumstance beyond our control.
Can I switch from the live race to virtual?
Yes, you can change online before the February 21st cut-off date.
Can I transfer my bib to someone else?
Yes! If you’re unable to attend the race and would like to transfer your bib to someone, you will need to head into your RunSignUp profile and follow the steps below.
- Click on “Manage Registration” next to the race
- Click on “Transfer to Someone Else”
- Enter in the recipient’s information (their name and email address is required)
- You can choose “Registration Gift” where neither party pays any additional fees or you can choose “Registration Transfer” to have the recipient pay the fee and the cost of the registration. The registration fees will be fully refunded to the original runner.
- The recipient will need to accept the transfer and complete their registration
All transfers MUST be done through RunSignUp for two primary reasons – the new runners will need to sign our waiver and you will avoid any potential scams (it happens more than it should).
If you signed up for packet mailing and your bib and swag has already been shipped, the new runner will not receive swag since it was already shipped to you.
How do I add on packet mailing?
If you’re already registered and would like to add packet mailing, please follow the instructions below.
- Go into your profile at Runsignup.com
- Find your race and click on “Manage Registration”
- From there, choose “Add-ons”
- You can now add that to your registration
If you have yet to register, you can add packet mailing during your registration.
Packet mailing is available until February 8th. Packets will be shipped out approximately two weeks from the race date.
What distance is the race?
There are two races: a 5K (3.1 miles) and a half-marathon (13.1 miles).
Is there an age minimum?
What is the half marathon time limit?
The time limit for the course is 3 hours & 30 minutes. This is about a 16 minute per mile pace. We have strict rules from the State DOT and the towns about how long the course can be open. Participants found on mile 5 on the course at a slower rate than 16 minutes per mile will be asked to turn around and head back to the finish.
Will there be pacers?
Yes. Pacers will be provided for the half marathon courtesy of Beast Pacing. Pacing groups will be as follows: 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:40, 2:50, 3:00, and 3:30 (hrs:min).
Are gels offered along the course?
No.
To maintain the integrity of our race and respect our host community, we do not offer energy gels along the course.
In previous years, many runners have discarded gel packets on the ground, contributing to complaints from local residents. Despite our extensive cleanup efforts, it is nearly impossible to collect all the waste. Such behavior not only reflects poorly on our event but also risks our ability to secure permits for future races.
If you choose to bring your own energy gels, we kindly ask that you dispose of them responsibly. For your convenience, we provide a minimum of three garbage cans at every water station and one garbage can at every mile marker. This is at least 28 opportunities for you to discard your gel packets appropriately.
Please be aware that anyone observed discarding gel packets on the course will be disqualified from the event. Let’s work together to keep our race environmentally respectful.
Are the roads closed for the race?
The course will not be closed to car traffic but there will be runner lanes with cones, signs, and race marshals directing traffic.
Is there a bag check?
Can I participate with a stroller/scooter/bike?
The use of wheeled devices by participants is limited to approved AWD wheelchair, handcycle and duo team participants only. Strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, unauthorized bicycles or any other wheeled devices are not permitted.
To ensure the safety of all participants, athletes requiring additional support (wheelchair, handcycle, crutches or guide) must receive written approval from the Race Director, no less than 21 days in advance of the event.
Can I run with headphones?
No. Because wearing headphones greatly reduces your ability to hear race marshals and car traffic, our insurance provider requires us to prohibit the wearing of headphones during the race.
Are there awards for top finishers?
For both the half and 5K, comped or discounted entries to future races are awarded to the top 3 men and women finishers overall and to the top 3 men and women in the following age categories:
5K: 14 & Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.
Half Marathon: 19 &Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.
The overall category will be scored using GUN time and the age group awards will be scored using CHIP time.
Is the course USATF certified?
Yes! The half marathon is certified. Please note that because this race has a history of inclement weather (snow and ice) that it may impact our ability to set up the course according to its certification. Although this scenario is unlikely, we will do everything possible to ensure the course is setup according to the certification.
Where are the bathrooms?
Where are the water stops?
Half: There will be stops at Miles 2 , 5.5, 7.8, and 10.5. 5K: There will be one water stop at Mile 2. All stops will have water and Gatorade.
Where is the best place for spectators to watch?
What about GPS course measurements?
The half marathon course is certified and accurate according to USATF standards. However your GPS measurement of the course is bound to be different and will most likely show the distance covered to be “long.” This is normal, and here’s a very technical explanation why: In GPS We Trust.
Are race photos free?
Yes! Add the images you’d like to download to your cart. When you’re done, head to your cart and checkout. These images include the event’s logo. If you’d like to have the image without the logo, you can pay to download one without it.
When will race photos be available?
The volume of photos captured can take time to edit and upload. These are typically available the next day. We’ll send out an email to all registered runners once they are available.
Why can't I find my photos?
We understand how important it is to have a photo that captures your race experience. While the photographers work hard to capture every runner, there are instances where it may not be possible. Factors like runners being positioned behind others, a bib number being obscured by a jacket or other items, or a large group of runners can make it challenging to get a clear shot.
Additionally, while the bib-tagging software is highly effective, there are rare occasions when it might not correctly identify a runner. Unfortunately, in these cases, we’re unable to retrieve additional photos.
We genuinely regret any disappointment this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
Who should I email for press inquiries?
